I get lots of requests for information about the super confusing world of labeling! Just know it doesn't need to be! :)
Please note that rules change and the information below is what I know as of right now.
I am not an expert, but I can help/direct you to follow the rules. Please also contact the FTC/CPSIA for exact information pertaining to your specific product.
I have some very helpful FTC links on my website HERE
Basically you need to provide the following:
- fiber content and whether domestic or imported
- City, State, Country of manufacture
- Business name or manufacturer with website, email or phone
(or RN# to replace this info)
- Care instructions
For Children's items (anything used by a child 12 and under),
you must also include a Date of Manufacture and Batch number. You can keep your own internal records on your batches.
You can view this CPSIA info HERE
You have some options with this. You can leave a blank line on the label with the following: "DOM/BATCH#:___________"
and fill that in with a ball point pen (it doesn't bleed or wash out) on every item you create.
Or you can use a little row of months and years and dot underneath like this example:
Slings and Carriers also have different rules which can be viewed HERE
These require ASTM labels such as these:
It all seems a little daunting, I know. However, the officials are super helpful and can easily and quickly let you know exactly what you need on your particular labels so don't hesitate to contact them.
Hope you found this information useful and feel free to get in touch with me anytime!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
